» Introducing the Certified Transport Planner (CTP)

The Certified Transport Planner (CTP) is a professional qualification that will represent the standard for capability and professionalism within the traffic and transport planning profession worldwide.

There are thousands of practicing and experienced transport professionals who unlike their professional counterparts in engineering or accountancy have no recognised professional status for their specific profession. The CTP unifies the disciplines of engineering, town planning, geography economics etc that underpin the modern Transport Planner.

Whether a transport planner, traffic engineer, transport officers a manager or traffic consultant, your important contribution to the community and industry will become recognised through the CTP.

The Certified Transport Planner (CTP) programme is nowavailable to all employees in transport planning.

With the assistance of the Transport and Logistics Centre (TALC), Australia’s major T&L industry associations banded together to introduce a nationally consistent CTP programme. For over twelve months TALC and industry representatives including AITPM worked together to develop a relevant and valuable professional development programme for the industry.

How you can become a CTP                                  Click here to start your online application form

The application process involves the following steps:

       1.    Completion of an online application form to attain a minimum 400 points representing your combined                 experience and education related factors;
       2.    Agreeing to maintain at least 50 weighted hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) per                   annum. CPD is mapped against a series of capabilities and is a requirement to maintain the CTP
              post nominal descriptor.
       3.    Signing an agreement to abide by the profession’s ethical code of conduct

Applications are completed online with appropriate supporting material such as qualification certificates to be scanned and submitted online. Alternatively hard copies of supporting evidence may be forwarded to the AITPM National Secretariat.

Once all the evidence has been submitted your application will be assessed by a Quality Review Panel to ensure that applicants have a high professional standard worthy of recognition.

Certification Fee                                                   Click here to start your online application form

A ‘once only’ application fee of $500 for certification is required by your nominated industry association.  Thereafter a yearly administration fee of $75 is payable to maintain your certified status and allow continued use of the ‘CTP’ post nominal.

The CTP Certification Council has been set up by the participating associations and consists of representatives from each organisation. The CTP Certification Council issues Certificates to all successful CTP applicants.

The CTP Certification Council is also responsible for maintaining professional and ethical standards.

The CTP programme is intended to become the life partner for many in the industry as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is crucial to maintaining CTP status. By attending activities such as seminars, site visits, conferences, training courses and executive programmes you will assist the advancement of your proficiency across the breadth and depth of transport planning discipline. The industry associations will publicise relevant events and activities on their respective web sites.

For the first time, persons working in transport planning will be recognised for their professional standing in a similar way to their counterparts, in the accounting, finance, and engineering professions.
