» How to Become a Member

To become a member, you either need to:

• hold formal academic qualifications associated with transport planning or traffic management gained from a recognized tertiary institution and be practicing in the field of transport planning or traffic management and have practiced in the same field for at least one (1) year.

or

• have had appropriate experience for a period of at least three years in the field of traffic planning or traffic management, including research, gained through a recognised organisation, and
• be in active practice in the field of traffic planning or traffic management.
  

Other membership grades include Associate, Student, Fellow, and Life Member. There are opportunities for Corporate Membership for government agencies, companies, associations and business entities working in related fields.

The Institute has attracted an impressive range of corporate members and sponsors for its activities. These include State Road and Traffic Authorities, Automobile Associations, Government Departments and Private Industry. » Associate Member

To be eligible for admission as an Associate Member of the Institute, an applicant must: be in active practice in the field of traffic planning or traffic management; or have an interest in the field of traffic planning or traffic management.

» Corporate Membership

Corporate membership of the Institute is composed of government and semi-government instrumentalities, companies, partnerships, associations and other business entities working in or related to the field of traffic planning or traffic management. Corporate membership may be granted by the National Council at its discretion upon receipt of an application.

» Appointment as a Fellow

To be eligible for transfer to the grade of Fellow of the Institute, an applicant shall: have had ten years of active practice in the field of traffic planning or traffic management; and have had five years in responsible charge of traffic planning or traffic management work; or have had five years in responsible charge of important scientific, educational or managerial activities of a calibre of that required in the point above; and have held the grade of member for at least five years; and be prepared to be interviewed to establish suitability.
