| The Transportation 2000 Conference theme The Travel
Bug presented the challenge of predicting the future. "Will our
transport systems and infrastructure meet the challenge to be environmentally sensitive,
people-friendly, freight-efficient, modally seamless, demand-responsive, ecologically
sustainable, and aesthetically considerate? What are the threats and opportunities for the
survival of modern travel freedom? What is, or what will be, the Bug in the
system"? Will it be in:
And how will the Bug be eradicated? Local and international speakers representing researchers, road authorities, road safety bureaus, regulators, operators, politicians, planners, designers, engineers, enforcers, scientists, and more will challenge and enlighten you regarding the Travel Bug. The objectives of the Conference were to provide:

Professional and technical officers, associated with traffic and transport planning and management, employed in engineering, land-use planning, road safety, social science, enforcement, economics and environmental science positions. Venue ANA Hotel The ANA Hotel is located in the heart of Surfers Paradise, surrounded by palm tree-lined avenues offering chic boutiques, al fresco cafes, lively entertainment and nightlife. It has been the venue for two previous AITPM Annual Conferences, combining excellent conference facilities with 2 restaurants, 2 cocktail lounges, 3 swimming pools, 2 saunas, 2 tennis courts, spa, studio gym, health and beauty club. There are superior levels of comfort and security in all 404 guestrooms, each having a private balcony with panoramic views. The Gold Coast Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast, Australias holiday playground, is a year-round magnet for visitors wanting to relax on sparkling beaches or in outdoor restaurants and cafes. It enjoys a sub-tropical climate, with 300 days of sunshine every year, and a Winter temperature range of 11 ° -21 ° C (52 ° -70 ° F). It is also the scene of spectacular shopping, annual Australian Surf Life Saving Championships and 24-hour casino action. Located on The Spit at Main Beach is Sea World, which features the worlds largest dolphin lagoon habitat and the action-packed stunts, graceful water ballet and fun-filled comedy of the live ski show. Nearby are Marina Mirage and Fishermans Wharf offering a cosmopolitan mix of restaurants, cafes, boutiques and galleries that overlook the magnificent Broadwater. The Broadwater is abuzz with boats of all shapes and sizes and a launch pad for thrillseekers wanting to experience bungee jumping, paraflying. seaplane flights, deep sea fishing charters and speedboat rides. Hospitality Delegates Reception while no formal Reception were arranged for Tuesday evening (6th June 2000), most delegates and partners met informally at the ANA Carinya Lounge Bar, in the Hotel foyer to catch-up with friends and relax with fellow delegates. Conference Dinner held on the evening of Wednesday 7 June 2000 at the ANA Hotel. Informal Activities a choice of two dinner and show venues was arranged for delegates for Thursday evening (8 June).
